So you think you might be psychic.
Very likely, you are, and so is everyone else. We just call it by other names, such as intuition, moms with eyes in the back of their heads, wisdom born of age, a sixth sense, or an inner knowing.
As we age, some think our ability to just “know” things increases. This is exceedingly good news for me, as I notice that my gray matter is getting foggier with each passing day.
Unfortunately, my inner knowing did not help me much this week as I fell for yet another email quiz.
Happens all the time.
I had done quite well on a Tibetan Personality Test that came earlier in the week. In fact, it was so interesting that I forward it to all 15 people it required to guarantee my nirvana.
This new one, however, The Breakfast Quiz, was somewhat different yet intriguing just the same. I could not resist it.
About this point, my inner voice was nagging at me saying I should know better, but of course, I did not listen.
The new email said, “Good morning. This is your Breakfast Quiz. It will tell a lot about your personality.”
Love these things.
The instructions went like this: “In the middle of the breakfast table is a round food tray with five kinds of fruit on it. They are apple, banana, strawberry, peach, and orange. Which fruit will you choose? Please think VERY carefully and do not rush into it. This is great. You will be astounded! Your choice reveals a lot about you and your deep sense of inner knowing. You will be just as surprised as I was.”
As I said, I was hooked already.
Wow, this would be revealing. No doubt, I would learn a great deal about my psychic tendencies and personality.
Apparently, one’s simple choice of a preferred fruit could disclose extrasensory perception and who knows what else.
I always knew I was psychic and had a sixth sense about things, so there you go. This little quiz should prove that and be fascinating as well.
Taking this assignment very seriously, I chose a banana.
Then, I began to second guess myself, because I remembered the childhood phrase “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Therefore, I reasoned that an apple must be the best answer after all.
I was quite sure the correct answer would not be a strawberry; too many people are allergic. A peach could not be right either because it is not as common. Perhaps, the orange though, I wondered.
No, I thought. I will stick with banana. Since that was my first choice, I had better go with it. We have been told by teachers all our lives that your first impression on multiple choice tests is best.
Never try and outthink the test. Right?
I scrolled slowly down the page, just as I was told. Then, I began to see the test answers pop up, one line at a time: If you chose an apple that means you are a person who loves to eat apples. If you chose a banana that means that you are a person who loves to eat bananas. Strawberry, peach, and orange followed suit.
Groan.
How could this Breakfast Quiz turn out to be such a “gotch ya’?”
Earlier in the week, I had been so taken with the Tibetan Personality Test that I forwarded it to one son who does not like forwards at all.
I guess no one really does, but this test was different, and I was convinced he would enjoy it.
Today, I heard back from him, and he wrote, “So, Mom, when did you become the forward bandit?”
My answer: “When I did not listen to my inner voice.”
Ouch.
